About the USD/KRW exchange rate
USD/KRW is quoted in the thousands, so a move of 10 or 20 won is a normal daily fluctuation rather than a big event. The won is sensitive to global technology demand, particularly semiconductors, which are among South Korea's largest exports.
For visitors to Korea, cards are accepted almost everywhere, but some small vendors and transit top-ups are easier with cash. Since the won has no subunit in use, every price is a whole number, and the large amounts can take a day or two to get used to when mentally converting prices back to dollars.
