Sweden's central bank, the Riksbank, founded in 1668, is the oldest central bank still operating in the world. The krona ("crown") dates to 1873, when Sweden and Denmark formed the Scandinavian Monetary Union, later joined by Norway, which is why all three countries still call their currencies crowns.
Sweden is an EU member but has not adopted the euro; voters rejected it in a 2003 referendum. It is also one of the most cashless societies in the world, with many shops and even some banks no longer handling cash at all. The öre subunit still exists for pricing, but öre coins were withdrawn in 2010, so cash totals are rounded to whole kronor.
