The New Zealand dollar, nicknamed the "kiwi" after the bird on its one-dollar coin, replaced the New Zealand pound in 1967. It is a relatively small currency by trading volume but a popular one with traders, partly because New Zealand has historically had higher interest rates than many other developed economies.
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand was the first central bank in the world to adopt a formal inflation target, in 1990, an approach that most major central banks later copied. New Zealand's exports lean heavily on dairy and agriculture, so prices for those goods feed into the currency's value.
