Norway is a major oil and gas exporter, so the krone tends to move with energy prices. Much of the country's oil revenue goes into the Government Pension Fund Global, one of the largest sovereign wealth funds in the world, which invests almost entirely outside Norway, partly to avoid overheating the domestic economy and pushing the krone too high.
Norway is not in the European Union and has never used the euro. Like Sweden, it is a heavily cashless society, although paying with cash is still legally protected. The krone is a relatively small currency by trading volume, which can make it more volatile than its economy's strength would suggest.
