Argentina has changed currencies several times because of high inflation, and the current peso has been in place since 1992, after a decade that included the peso argentino and the austral. From 1991 to 2002 it was pegged one-to-one to the US dollar, a system that collapsed during the country's severe economic crisis.

Argentina has long had a gap between the official exchange rate and a parallel market rate, locally called the "dólar blue", because of restrictions on buying foreign currency. The rate this converter shows is the official rate. If you're traveling to Argentina, it is worth checking what rate your card or transfer service actually applies, since policies have changed frequently.
